paulellam Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Is anyone using this who can tell us what they think to it?
panosthegreat Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 We use it for registration via iPad for PE and other roaming subjects that don't have access to a desktop version of SIMS. The first negative is it's not compatible with Android so we're stuck using iPads that cost more for the same hardware. Then we find staff regularly mark an entire class as absent instead of present - we think this is down to fat fingers as the absent and present buttons are quite small and close together... a larger iPad may solve this. If you don't mark a student as present/absent, they stay blank on the register.. whereas on regular SIMS it'll pick up that you didn't mark someone and ask if you want to mark them as absent or not. It also won't show you the history of a student's attendance that day, so if someone is in for say, Periods 1-3, then doesn't turn up to PE for Period 4, that teacher won't see they were marked in earlier in the day to flag them up as missing. It's better than using paper registers though.
smarties11 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Is anyone using this who can tell us what they think to it? We had a demo of it earlier this year and didn't like it. It's not Android compatible as already mentioned and critically [for us anyway] it doesn't support the Profiles module in SIMS for doing annual reports! Have you had a look at EduLink One? (https://www.overnetdata.com/edulinkone) It offers parental engagement too but works out cheaper than SIMS Teacher App + SIMS Parent App. This is the route we went down after looking at various offerings from 3rd parties. 1
mthomas08 Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 Is anyone using this who can tell us what they think to it? Looked at this a while ago.. wasn't impressed. Only worked in the App which you can't get working on W7 at the time (that should be gone next year anyway). On non touch screen devices like staff laptops it was very poor. With SLG being cancelled you've got no choice but to use this. We went over to EduLink and it's been so much better.
