TwistedHelixis Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 The primary school bursar is in the process of looking at alternatives to our expensive old analogue phone system, so far she has had quotes for a similar analogue system and a newer IP based system. As the school is already a G Suite school I was thinking of giving her a curve ball and mentioning Google Voice, but have never used this. Are any schools using Google Voice? Can you connect a normal phone and make calls? Any other options?
supportman Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 I was looking at Microsoft Teams the other day and phone systems, technology seems very early so far.
theeggmaster Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 I think Google Voice is US only. You can make calls outside of the US using Hangouts. - https://support.google.com/voice/answer/115061 You should probably be looking at a SIP-based system, which we'll be switching to once ISDN is phased out.
Arthur Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 I think Google Voice is US only. As of 10 April 2019 it is now available in the UK. https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2019/04/google-voice-for-business-cloud-telephony.html Google Voice is now generally available as an add-on to G Suite. Voice for G Suite is a cloud-based phone system that’s optimized for businesses of all sizes. G Suite customers can use it to deploy and manage phone numbers at scale with the intelligence and security of Google Cloud. https://support.google.com/voice/answer/9310722 Google Voice shows up as a service I can add in my G Suite domain. 1
Popular Post rogerdnixon Posted October 1, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 1, 2019 I've been part of the UK Google Voice trial (just ended yesterday). All works very well as far as I can see and has some really nice features. I especially like voice mail email notifications where it converts the message into text for you. Don't believe the headline prices - they have special Edu pricing which makes is similar in cost to other solutions - but quitea lot more flexible. It's nice just having one number you can use on any device. 6

rogerdnixon Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Around £9 a license per month I believe. You can gets quotes from any Google reseller - we use C-Learning. If you want desk phones - you need to use compatible polycom phones which start at around £80.
