Schools in UK are picking O365 over the superior GSuite - what about in the US

The college round the corner has been a Google school since 2008 (probably one of the first), so before Office 365 was even a thing.

 

When the LA started deploying Office 365, G Suite was not even mentioned, they simply sent out information saying they would be migrating from the old email (RM) to Office 365. I know of one LA supported school that wanted to use G Suite and they were told at the time they would not support or help the school with G Suite.

 

EDIT - I would like to add that the penny is finally starting to drop at the LA, as so many schools want to use Chromebooks.

We must be in different parts of the SE . Two local free schools I know are primarily G Suite, but all the other local schools I've had dealings with, mostly academies that left the LA and some in sizeable MATS, seem to be O365. They're not really up and running with a clear strategy of blended learning. Certainly they have some way to go, whether that's SharePoint or Teams. In fact on reflection, I think they've all not gone much further than O 365 email, probably replacing exchange. Also, as far as I recall, all are SIMS whereas both free schools have gone to a cloud based MIS - one Progresso the other Arbor. I'm not sure Surrey LA are showing any signs of changing direction for MS stack and SIMS, but I believe some of the larger academies are starting to consider options.

Just to clarify - The schools I am referring to are both primary and secondary and when I say all the schools round me are Google I do not mean the entire county, I literally mean the schools near me, say a 10 mile radius. Not sure why but there are clusters of schools that do not want to be supported by the LA and then outside of those clusters are the LA supported schools. The LA probably support up to 70% of all the schools in my county, so most schools in the county are Office 365 by virtue of being supported by a company that only gave them one choice.

 

I recently took over a primary school from the LA, the new head had come from a school that had used G Suite before and wanted that, so they dumped the LA. Most schools I know of would not leave the LA support, as it is all they know, so they stick with what they have, just like SIMS.
