Problems with timber shed

A few months ago I bought a timber shed which has now started to split.

 

Looking at the image just above 23”, it looks like the board was nailed too close to the edge so catching the lip of the lower board causing the lip to be pulled apart.

 

I know timber sheds move and crack but would you say this is a manufacturing defect and I’ve got a case for refund?

Is the shed on a concrete base?

Yes, at least 100mm concrete

The sale of goods act says that products must last a reasonable time. A few months is unreasonable for a shed. Take it up with the vendor

This is an easy repair for the company, so your first call should be to get a repair under warranty.

 

For sheds out of warranty, it's fairly straightforward to replace individual boards of a shed if you get rot or splits in boards.

 

Get a new board of the same profile as that to be replaced.

Unscrew and remove one the vertical corner edging pieces holding the boards in

Remove the nails holding the defective board and slide the defective board out

Slide the replacement board in (you'll probably need a mallet) and nail the board in place.

Replace the edging piece.
