chris11256 Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 Hi All, We're an Office 365 school and it's coming up to the time of year where the year group distribution lists need changing. My last school was Hybrid Office 365, so all distribution lists were based on AD Security groups. Is it possible to do a similar thing without a hybrid setup? I'm keen to avoid manually updating the distribution lists for all of the pupils. Thanks in advance!
robyholmes Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 Do you have AD Connect setup for syncing? That's going to be the only quick way of making the changes unless your good at Powershell. Also, use sub groups to make life easier in future, IE: Students > 2010 Leavers > Year 11 Makes moving them much easier when you simply move 5 groups up. 1
chris11256 Posted August 20, 2019 Author Posted August 20, 2019 We do have Azure AD Connect. How can I use it to manage my lists? Sorry if this sounds stupid, I've very little experience with AD Connect.

Hi, It should be syncing any 'Mail Enabled Security Groups', which are just groups with the email field filled in. So long as your AD filtering includes the OU they are in. Cheers, Rob 1
chris11256 Posted August 20, 2019 Author Posted August 20, 2019 Thanks, will have a fiddle around. For some reason my prededcessor never bothered with automation or time saving and preferred changing everything manually every September(that included creating accounts).
