Program only runs as local admin (Lifesize)

I'm working in a University department where they're trying to use a videoconferencing program called Lifesize, but it recently stopped working. After you log into it, it hangs.

 

I've found that it still works if the user is a local admin, but the place doesn't generally allow that. So I'm trying to work out exactly what's preventing it from working without local admin rights. I'd be interested in general suggestions on how you'd establish that. (I've tried setting full permissions on the program folder but that didn't work, nothing obvious in the Windows event log. Power Users instead of local admin doesn't work either.)
