smoothwall Basic Connectivity test fails but smoothwall is working fine ?

I have a Strange issue that i cant quite wrap my head around (might be having a blonde moment) if i run a functionality test everything is fine apart from the Basic Connectivity test fails, and i cant figuer out why

 

smoothwall is running , people are authenticating and its fuiltering as it should but still the test fails

 

anybody got any ideas befor i tear my hair out

Ours fails too, iirc it was on DNS or something but like you said everything is working fine. I've just noticed though that the drop downs are missing on Leeds 14 to explain whats failed but I've just seen that 17 fixes it

we are on version leeds 16 and yes the explanations are missing , roll on 17

Just installed it and they are back

Yep 17, not sure when it arrived but it installed fine

What test is failing in the basic connectivity? You can see individual tests by expanding the basic connectivity item.

 

Just for reference - the connectivity monitoring that can be enabled on any interface that has a gateway configured on it, works by trying a DNS lookup on Google servers via the gateway. If the DNS lookup fails, the connectivity test fails and the interface is marked as not available for external traffic (but only if there are more than one with a gateway).

 

If there is an interface with a gateway that is no longer used for external traffic, either remove the gateway (ideally) or disable the connectivity check.

hi the problem is you cant expand the test results as the dropdown is missing so i just get basic conectivity failed . no further info is showing or available

Do you have any upstream proxies? (Like Grid wise etc) If so it auto fails as it can't get out of that proxy (assuming you need a proxy address which Smoothwall doesn't have for the "checks") and so we had to disable the external checks as it fails even though it works as you mentioned.

 

Might be worth a check if you do
