Jcx500 Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Hi All, I am in two minds whether to get a secondary hyper v host. My employer is a new school and we just have a very high spec hp gen 10 server with about 18 vm's on it . But it had issues recently so i don't know what to do with this modern day idea of going serverless or to continue to develop my on prem infrastructure
PotNoodleTech Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Yes, the beauty of hyperV or Vmware is that you do not have to buy an all singing and dancing £10,000 server to run it. Go to ICT Direct, Serversource or IT In Stock and buy a refurbished one or two gen old server chocked full of hard disks and have that sitting in another area of the schools just waiting for a failover event to happen. A Dell R720XD with 2 x 128GB SSD for OS and 12 x 4TB HDD for data does the job lovely. No need to spend much more than £2000. 1
