Decided for the first time this year we are going to do a year book digitally rather than printing it out which is way to expensive.

 

Idea is to burn to dvd so kids can run it on TV, PC, Game consoles etc.

 

Any one done this?, have any advice tips, etc... and what software is recommended.

I have used MS Photostory (free) for the last few years here. Puts photo's into a slideshow with transforms and you can add music - then we burn them to dvd's for them to take away... they absolutely love it!

Runs about 28 mins... probably about 300 images. We collect them from the kids, teachers and throw in some images of the school for good luck...

Handy tip: Try to fit some of the images to the words in the songs! Shine is particularly good for that...

Last couple of years a pupil has done ours, last year they did it in Vista DVD movie maker, and we just just done copies and a front cover.

 

We have recently employed a Digital technician so I guess he might do some whizzie DVD.

We did that for a member of staff leaving - it was pretty funny actually and they loved it.

I guess that depends if you want to make some pro-looking Oscar-winning film or simply to collate a load of clips in a slightly rough but memory-stirring way. One would take days, the other a handful of hours.

 

I can recommend MS Photo Story, though - simple to use and free. As well as transitions from one photo to the next, you can set it to zoom in/out on an image, pan across it and so forth. You can only get .wmv files out of it, which is a bit limiting, but you could always import the .wmv into Premiere (or similar) when you want to burn it to DVD. Vista's Windows DVD Maker would be a free option for that if you have access to Vista.
