[ms office - o365] Updated Word 365 changing layouts/tables

This has me baffled and extremely annoyed.

We have updating turned on across the board for Office 365 apps and as per the norm, some machines will get it way in advance of others. However inbetween those moments, we have disparity which shouldn't usually be an issue.

However, our reprographics staff have 2 computers, one with a very up to date version of Word 365 (16.0.11629.20210) and the other, like many others that have yet to be rebuilt this year in school on 16.0.8201.2102.

 

Part of the same file looks thus on the old machine, how it should:

 

And the same file on the newer machine:

 

Identical everything - margins, paragraph sizes, cell heights (forced to 1cm for this example), auto sizing, scaling, absolutely everything. There are 5 pages of these notes after this, each is headed "Notes" at the top of the page. the old version all displays these fine, Notes and a table underneath per page. The newer one bunches them all up.

Now this is actually a correction from me, the original doc had lines put in with underscores (eww) so I thought this would correct the issue. Wrong

 

The gridlines are only on to easily show the difference in "height". This is repeatable on all machines with the newer version installed and also prints incorrectly. Older machines display and print fine.

 

Tearing my hair out on this one, although no doubt not as much as the poor folk in our repro department wondering if they're going mad!

There's no way that top one can be 1cm cell heights, unless you've changed the padding/font sizes etc too

 

Looking at what you posted originally the top one isn't 1cm, the bottom is (Using your photos for scale as being lazy):

 

"right" one, 12 cells = 14.x~ cm

 

"wrong" one, 12 cells = 12 cm

 

Even if it's set to 1cm don't forgot it'll change if there's something like font size/style/padding that makes it bigger (If you're using mailmerge etc maybe the formula etc)

Just noticed as well (unless it's from a previous page issue), the top of Notes is higher on the second one too, so maybe something like line spacing before text on? That added line spacing might apply to every cell if so (Again unless that's just from page 94 etc)

good man! There was indeed an errant setting - on the old version on the same file cell height is set to 1cm (AT LEAST) whereas on the new version, exactly the same file, its set to 1cm (EXACT).

Means there's some global setting behind the scenes I need to find, but at least if I can get everyone on the same version we'll be golden
