Deploying Windows 10 via MDT

Hello,

 

I am currently looking into upgrading to Windows 10. I have setup to deploy via MDT and that's working really well so far. I have used the standard client task sequence but when looking through the settings not alot of it makes sense to me. I was wondering what everyone is adding, if anything, to their task sequences when setting up an image. I know theres things like removing the unwanted windows 10 apps but I have read this can also be done in GPO.

 

Does anyone have any recommendations for the task sequence or should I just leave it and see what I can do in group policy?

Just setting up this myself...

 

I would take a look at adding this script to remove unwanted apps

 

I've also looked into installing Office 2019, using a mixture of the config office website and this guide

 

Just testing it all works now!

Also, depending on your need, you may want to disable bitlocker as I think that's enabled on the standard task.

Thanks for your advise, just looking at the script now. I'm not worrying about office 19 yet, going to carry on with office 2013 for the time being which I deploy via GPO and I will upgrade to office 19 in the future.

 

I noticed the bitlocker setting in the task sequence when I was looking through. Are you disabling it?

xx09 releases have 30 months support whereas xx03 releases only have 18 months.

 

I rip the unwanted stuff out using OSDBuilder then add the OSDBuilder modified ISO on MDT for deployment to computers.

You'll still be looking at an annual deployment unless you re-image workstaions over Easter instead of the summer. For example from the currently available releases you'll need to do the next update summer 2020 anyway as 1809 ends in May 2021 (1903 ends December 2020). For that reason the only difference between the latest 09 and 03/04 releases are the testing time available before deployment.

Thanks, I didn't realise that about the xx09 and xx03 releases so good to know. It will make things a little simpler to skip the xx03 releases all together going forwards.

Thats also a good point, I hadn't thought that far ahead about having to upgrade so often after initially upgrading to Windows 10!
