[sims] SIMS - possible to create a "day 3 of absence" report?

Hi,

 

We are trialling a system this year where work is collated to send home for all subjects when a child hits their third consecutive day of absence. Currently, these students are identified manually, and as such the process is reasonably erratic and inconsistently triggered.

 

Is there any way of creating a report in SIMS that will identify students that are absent today and on their third (or higher) day of absence? I thought I had it sussed with the Reports > Lesson Monitor > Letters option using a "Continuous Absence" setup, but inexplicably this only considers students who are absent today and have X number of unexplained absences - unless I am missing something, this then excludes any students who are off for legitimate/known reasons.

 

My other suggestion to colleagues will be to use the Continuous Absence report, setting the from date to 3 days ago, setting the to date to today, choosing "At least 5" absences, and running the report that way - but that's remarkably clunky and all too easy to set the wrong 'from' date when working backwards three school days.

 

Any alternative thoughts or suggestions gratefully received.

You could write a report in SIMS to give you all students with 3 filters of "prompt at run time date = not present" and pass in the dates of today, yesterday and the day before using a script and commandReporter then schedule it for just after registration closes
