[MDT] Wrong edition of Windows deployed during upgrade

Hi all,

 

- Latest MDT build, Windows 10 1809 ADK, Windows 10 1809 ISO with WIM file converted from ESD file.

 

I'm busy playing around with the upgrade sequence in MDT, when I hit a weird outcome today. I have a Windows 7 Pro test VM, which I upgrade to Windows 10 1809. My source OS in MDT is Windows 10 Education 1809, but in the VM it had only upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.

 

The funny this is that if I use those same source files to do a bare metal Windows 10 deployment from MDT, Windows 10 Education is installed as it should be.

 

Anyone have any idea why the upgrade would have gone to Pro instead of Education? In the task sequence, I have selected Windows 10 Education 1809 as the OS and Education is the only edition imported in the MDT Operating Systems folder.

 

I must admit that I don't often make use of the Upgrade sequence, but I do have some Windows 7 machines I'd like to upgrade instead of nuking and paving as I normally do. The ability to now convert to a UEFI install is also a very pleasant bonus.
