Can ping 1 printer out of 5?

Hello All

 

So recently I got my senior technician to take a printer that was being used by the IT office and plug it into another room as theirs was failing. Our printer is on VLAN 112 (New Printer VLAN) and the other it was replacing is on VLAN 107 (Old Printer VLAN)

 

We use HP Universal drivers and servers point to the printers so in the past if we replace one we just change the IP to the same as it's replacement and away it goes without a hitch. Though I came across another older printer today that I said we could use in our room to replace the one we've just given away. The IP was set on automatic and we have 5 printers that go from 172.16.138.1 - 172.16.138.5 so naturally this printer picked up 172.16.138.6 as the next occurring IP. I manually set this printer to 172.16.138.3 which was what our old printer was on and restarted the printer. Since then all the other printers .1, .2, .4, .5 are un-pingable.

 

I have double checked and cross referenced the IP's, subnet value and gateway IP to ensure they're all correct and they are. I've also double checked that on the switch the port is properly configured and it is with the correct VLAN.

 

I then checked DHCP and found that from .1 to .5 with the exception of .3 they're all saying BAD_ADDRESS something it wasn't doing before. I also checked the reservations and saw in the reservations there was an entry for our old printer we have moved across back to the old VLAN on .3. So I deleted this and deleted all the BAD_ADDRESS entries on the Address Lease and restarted all the printers again but for some reason they still won't ping!!

 

Our printer on .3 is working, I even thought maybe our printer was causing too much traffic or something causing issues but unplugging this still doesn't help.

 

I'm stuck really not sure what else I can try, I'm sure there must be something that can be done. I was going to restart the DHCP server thinking it was that but I can't as it will take down the whole plant.

 

Any ideas?

So I've found out that if I connect a computer to that same 112 VLAN I can ping all the printers no problem. But from any other VLANS it won't communicate with anything other than the 172.16.138.3 printer so it needs to be the gateway some how. I've triple checked all the printer manual IP settings and they are definitely looking at the correct IP for the gateway. The gateway is can ping from any VLAN fine although if I try to browse via IE to the gateway from another VLAN it gives me a timeout error but I can browse to it without issue if I'm on the same 112 VLAN.

 

I though maybe a conflict of IP's but that isn't the case and if it was surely the computer connected to the same VLAN wouldn't be able to find it or ping out to other VLAN's at all so I'm stumped..

Scratch the last bit about the browsing to the gateway it was because I hadn't got the IP in the proxy exceptions. I can now browse to the gateway from any VLAN and can still get to .3 from any VLAN but .1 .2 .4 and .5 are all inaccessible unless on the same VLAN as those devices. Seriously I'm really confused!
