storage solution suggestions

Hey everyone

 

after some advise on a new storage solution i can rely on, we current have a direct storage array (HP MDS600) so the right draw have 32 450gb 15k sas drives (Total 8TB) and the left side has 8 2tb drives in, they both connect to a server each via sas cables i think 6gb speed,

 

the main draw (right ) houses the ADFS server and data , finance, print server, WDS, the second server doesnt house anything yet but i am wanting to setup a second ADFS server with high redundancy and have a good mixture of virtual machines across the 2.

 

The current issue with the DAS is am having a lot of drives dropping and i have had to replace the SAS controllers 4 times in the last 6 months so am looking for somthing new and that can do high redundancy

Plenty of choice out there currently, depending on whether you want all-flash, hybrid or stick with spinning disks. Fujitsu are good value at the moment although if you can get bid-pricing from someone such as Dell or HPE then these will also be competitive on price. Each manufacturer has it's merits, covering advantages such as ease-of-growth, management, etc.

 

Are you bothered about sticking to HP? Plenty of choice out there currently, eg HP or Fujitsu.

Do you have any thoughts as to whether you want to go flash or hybrid or stick with spinning disks?

What management software do you currently use?

And what are you using for backup?

Thanks for the reply am guessing its going to depend on budget of the kit, I don't mind what type it is. I currently use the hp array utility . And for backups I have a server in a different part of the building running veeam backup it copies the disk images across to 4tb drives

Take a bunch of intel enterprise SSD's, shove them in your VM hosts, sit back and enjoy 100% reliability over the next 5 years with zero support/licencing/contract costs.

 

I've found that often the best storage solutions are the simplest!
