Smart Ink v18 Issues in PowerPoint

Hi All,

 

For our Windows 10 deployment, we are using Smart Notebook 18 and the bundled drivers. The vast majority of our boards are SB680, and we have a small number of SB580.

 

The issue we are having is that when using the inking tools to annotate a PowerPoint presentation, PowerPoint is advancing the slide when you are annotating. It is detecting pressure applied with the pen as a 'click'. If you write very lightly you can just about get away with it, but as soon as you do something like dot an 'i', it advances.

 

I've tested on a few of our boards in school and they are all doing it.

 

I've tried changing the settings in Smart so that it uses Smart Ink rather than Microsoft Ink, this makes no difference.

 

Has anyone else experienced this issue? It seem worse on the SB580s than it does on the SB680s. The SB680s seem to be less sensitive to the issue, but it is still present.

I found that the most recent driver you can use with SB580 and SB680 is version 12.2.xxx The 12.5.xxxx which was bundled with 17 that I tried last year didn't work (it sorry of worked, but loads of errors and temperamental). I now install an old driver first and then whatever version of Smart Notebook/ Smart Suite you like/have a license for.

Within Smart ink settings there is a Microsoft Office settings section that has some check boxes for a Power Point plugin that sound like the issues you are seeing.

@jmak - thanks for this! I think this may well be our issue. I've been to Smart's website and looked at previous versions, however 12.2.xxx is no longer offered. Just to update this thread with the solution @sonie

 

The driver was a red herring. What was actually causing the issue was that I have previously set unmanaged add-ins to be blocked by the group policy setting at User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Microsoft PowerPoint 2016\Miscellaneous\Block all unmanaged add-ins. At the same location, there is another group policy setting 'List of managed add-ins' which allows you to whitelist the Smart Ink add-in. In here, enter SMARTInk-PowerPoint-All as the add-in name, and 1 as the value (which whitelists it). Likewise, under the same group policy settings for Excel and Word the add-in names required are SMARTInk-Excel-All and SMARTInk-Word-All

 

Just tested with these settings in place and it works perfectly, I am now able to annotate on PowerPoints without it advancing the slide

 

Appreciate @jmak getting the old driver across to me yesterday but wasn't needed in this instance.
