artfulmatt Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Hi, With O365 and Azure and other cloud platforms and with Win10 being designed to work per user more than it is multiuser, how feasable would it be to run a device per user (students) in education? With MDM and MFA in Azure enrolling devices and all the app deployment and management it kind of makes sense. But cost (per device) would be huge ?? Has anyone else thought about it? Matt.
Jawloms Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Very feasible, people have been doing it for years. Just make sure they're insured as the rate you get through broken screens is horrendous.
XiJ Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Looking at this now. As I understand it staff users are paid for per user and pupils get the extra benefits for logging in. There staff licenses covers it all. I’m waiting for a chat with MS though as nothing is every simple and the documents seem contradictory is some ways!
jmak Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 (edited) I think we're talking devices rather than licensing here, although for the commonly used Microsoft OVS licensing where you pay per staff FTE and gain licenses for pupil machines, you should note that it only applies to shared computers. Office 365 accounts and web apps are actually free though, so you can make use of 1:1 devices without buying lots of software. Personally, I think it's about time we had 1:1 devices; funding seems to be about £4k/pupil/year for primaries in our region. The Chromebooks I've been buying recently for £200 to £250 are more than adequate. £75 out of £4k send like it should be affordable... Edit: my costing assuming a 3 year device life. free780 Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 (edited) It's the cost of the hardware and the learning curve for staff and students. With one device per person really you can make programs/apps avaliable rather than required. The user takes more responsibility. I suspect with Microsoft 365 1:1 may become the necessity to take advantage of all features. In edu we have a legacy of shared devices and the management which is going to be hard to escape. Now all we need is a 365 chromebook. Edited February 15, 2019 by free780
