What are the GDPR rules about sending unsolicited mail

The general school email address got an unsolicited email from a small business who decided to use yahoo instead of signing up for a proper mail operation like mailchimp.

 

I suspect they might have broken a number of GDPR/unsolicited mail rules.

 

things which may be relevant

 

1. the to: address is "Undisclosed recipients" So we're not even specified

2. there's no mention of or instructions in the email of how to unsubscribe.

3. at the top of the email there's this (I removed the link): "Under GDPR please follow this link and click on the contact page."

4. on the contact page there's this and still no information about how to unsubscribe

It's slightly annoying because you think "oh this must be the unsubscribe link" and then there's an opt in form and no mention of opt-out lol.

 

I don't want to report them as it looks like a decent if amateur operation of an aspirational speaker but rather educated them on the correct way of sending these emails.

Hi.

If it wasn't addressed to an individual but to, for example " [email protected]" they haven't broken any rules in actually sending it. They should however offer an unsubscribe.

It's pretty confusing about where specific information might be on that site but I finally located this document

is the checklist for the rules that apply to business to business marketing. All our unsolicited mail goes to a main school address that has no ones name associated with it.

 

Under "marketing by email or text" is the item "We offer an opt-out (by reply or unsubscribe link)"
