I've not posted in a very long time but I have come across something I think only you guys can help me with!

E-exams - how the hell do you do this?

We have a requirement for a secure exam environment in which student login using 'an' account, can use a set of applications (one day this might be Word, another day it might be RStudio etc) and submit their work at the end. It must have all the usual stuff like not being able to access files that could have been put on the machines before and suitable internet filtering etc.

We currently use a Frankenstein's monster of a custom script, Comodo firewall and DeepFreeze combo - but this just isn't sustainable and I want to kill deepfreeze.

Grateful of any help!

Thanks,

Jason

We have two exam usertypes, "Exams Secure" and "Exams relaxed".

Secure has no internet, relaxed does have internet but no (school) email.

Only a specific program set on the start menu is available to them; the regular ones are hidden. The exams apps (Word, Internet, Network Notepad...) are all there - we don't stop them using "the wrong one" - that's down to invigilation if they're off-topic.

Okey cokey.

Do you do anything for, say, student A logging in and saving files to the C:/ drive and then logging in as an Exam account and reading these files?

Edit: Also - how do those e-exam accounts get tidied up?

Students have no rights to save to or read from the C drive anyway, exam or not. It is hidden by GPO. The only place they can save is in their My Documents folder, which is on the server. At the end of the exam I access these folders, remove their work for forwarding to the exam board, if required, and archive it. The user areas are then cleared for the next exam.
