Sonic007 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I'm going to be joining two schools that are side by side into one, they are currently linked via fibre and ethernet. What would you suggest as best scope to go for... We have approx: 100 desktops. 10 Printers. 40 IP Phones. 15 IP Cameras. 250 iPads. 50 Laptops Add another 30 for Wifi Access Points. And add another 20 addresses for miscellaneous things. Assume all staff bring a phone and connect to wifi so that's another 40 odd. What would you recommend? I was thinking a subnet of 255.255.248.0 Your thoughts please. Many thanks.
ITGuyWestMidlands Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 You should look at splitting it up futher with VLANs, especially for your phones, wireless devices and CCTV. No reason to to go bigger to factor in growth. 1

Well...you certainly don't want those connecting to your internal (safe) network - so you defo need a separate VLAN to your webfilter/router for these. And I'd be recommending a separate VLAN for printers - because they produce a relatively large amount of "chatter" and broadcasts.....but that leaves you with looking a solution for how the ipads would see the printers...I used QR codes rather than bonjour....but perhaps you have papercut to some other such service. 1
