Junior Librarian 'circulate has not been unlocked on this computer'

I don't normally have anything to do with this software, but today our librarian has asked if I can look at this.

Circulate button says 'circulate has not been unlocked on this computer' when I hover over it.

I have read there may be something in the settings, but clicking on the 'Librarian Only' button where I presume they would be, opens another window at the log on page again!

Edit: I also read that this may need some sort of plug-in (but that is possibly for an older version) and I have never needed to do this as we use a web version.

Click the Login button and use the administrator details (not the 'Librarian' user). You should then see a 'settings' tab appear at the top of the window where you should find the 'Unlock circulate' checkbox.

Once selected, you can log out of the admin account and Circulate should remain enabled.

Having said that, yesterday morning there was a bug which prevented the Circulate button being enabled, even after using the admin login!

Thanks but unfortunately I don't know what the administrator login is and nor does the librarian!

Also.... I have put the IE shortcut to Junior Librarian not only on the library computer but also on all the teacher laptops (as they also have class books) and it has been working fine for the last year at least... I have never had to change anything in the settings.

Yeah, things just break for no good reason on Junior Librarian. You'll probably have to contact the MLS/Capita support team then, but don't expect a quick reply.

I know! I've seen the thread... (that's why I thought I would try here first). I actually haven't had a single problem with it for years, so haven't needed support until now and was REALLY trying to avoid it.

I only had to keep my head down for 4 more days... My office might as well have had a revolving door today with the amount of problems and yet it's been quiet for weeks...

Just in case anyone else gets this far...

It is happening to all computers on the site (not just the library one), so I guess it may well be a bug at their end and not something that has happened here.

Do you (or anyone else) have any more details on that?

I logged a support ticket yesterday morning and got this reply email yesterday afternoon-

We have had reports this morning of an issue whereby circulate appeared locked even when logged in as the administrator, there was no provision for unlocking it as normal and when going into management the group and user manager boxes were blank.

This issue has now been resolved by our development team. You may need to close and reload your browser in order for the fix to take full effect.

Why can't this year be over already... :getmecoat:

The irony being that this appeared whilst trying to submit a support ticket!!!

All fun and games. We're finding that the 'Unlock Circulate' step needs to be done every morning now. Both in IE and Chrome, the setting is 'forgotten' by the next day.

I won't add to the 'How long have you waited for Capita/MLS support' thread as my call was answered straight away at 9 a.m. this morning and I received a support email at 10 a.m. so I've fixed it for now...

However, bearing in mind this is a web based/hosted/cloud application I'm having trouble getting my head round the reason for the answer!

Possibly some idiot has pushed a button and hosed the security permissions for the accounts at their end - I doubt it has anything to do with 'an account has been set-up incorrectly' as the email infers... Unless they have set it up incorrectly, but then surely this is something they should deal with?

Of course if they've done it to everyone, that's a lot of accounts to go into and reset...

Did I read somewhere that it relied on a token or cookie being left on the computer (or was that an old version)? Maybe that is being cleared somehow?

We've got this problem as well, although for a JL user with limited permissions we set up, so not for the default admin or librarian users. Circulate now unblocked via the admin login, and the user can now Circulate, but we'll see what happens tomorrow

J224 I know this thread was 2 years ago but, did you ever resolve the issue of the circulate setting being reset every day? On my login account it works fine but I had a 'Libraian' account created and it has to be reset every time anyone uses this login. It's on the same computer so I'm trying to work out whether it's a setting within the junior.net software or to do with the permissions county has given the new Librarian login.

Hi Cookie115,

To be honest, I can't remember. I think it's likely to be related to the settings of the Librarian login if it's not got administrator privileges. There were many other annoying issues with Junior Librarian.

We've been using Libresoft since the beginning of 2019 and haven't looked back.
