dgsmith Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Is it possible to create new guest OS templates to use when creating a new VM? In vsphere it only goes up to server 2012. Would I be able to create new templates and associate with an ISO, or would it be that I have to choose 2012 then boot the newly created VM from a newer ISO instead?
kmount Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 What version of vCenter + ESXi are you running? If you are on 5.5 - see this KB - https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2132789 (tl;dr HW version 10 can support Server 2016 use Server 2012 from the list) If you are on 5.x - see this KB also as general support has ended for these versions - https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/51491 1
Achandler Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 The above is correct, support has ended for both versions though. Basically you need to upgrade your VMWare version as well ideally, 5.5 won't support 2019. 1
dgsmith Posted December 18, 2018 Author Posted December 18, 2018 Thanks. I never really fully adapted to the web version and carried on using vsphere but I know I am on borrowed time with it! Seems to boot ok from the 2016 iso using the 2012 template anyway.
