trackers Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Now that assessment results are entered for reporting I am looking at ways of using the data. (and hoping that our first use of the SIMS Parent App goes smoothly!) I would like to have a way of calculating percentages of students in various categories of achievement eg 3 Cs+. Should I be looking at doing this through SIMS or should I be exporting result spreadsheets into Excel and trying to progress from there? As ever, any advice appreciated. trackers
NotSoFast Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 I don't use Sims, but I'd say a product like Sisra or 4Matrix will pay for itself pretty quickly if you plan to do any amount of assessment analysis. I resisted for years, but when I did accept the inevitable I must admit using 4Matrix saved me days of work. For example, GCSE results used to take about a day and a half to pull together in Excel. We now do it in less than an hour in 4Matrix.

Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Look at the Performance Analysis handbook in your SIMS's Documentation center (on the SIMS homepage) Analysis grids can do that quickly and easily. 1
trackers Posted December 18, 2018 Author Posted December 18, 2018 Thanks for the replies. I feel a little daunted by the software suggested in the first two replies. I suppose that what I had in mind was an excel sheet that I could write some formulae for. The packages mentioned seem very fancy for my meagre requirements - but I will not rule them out. I will take a look at thePA handbook you mention to see if it can be applied to my requirements.

If your an excel wiz you can dump it into excel from SIMS but if you want to distribute it to an audience wider than yourself then I really suggest SISRA or 4 matrix as has already said it will pay for itself in your time alone. 1
NotSoFast Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 4Matrix will give you a free trial, I'm sure. Pop your results in and see what you think! All you do is paste in a spreadsheet (or do a direct import in the case of Sims, ie press a button). If you do, pm me and mention our school as I think we get a few months free if you like it! 1
trackers Posted December 20, 2018 Author Posted December 20, 2018 I will take a look at tyour suggestion in the New Year. In the meantime I did design a dedicated excel document that is giving me what I need for now though. I'll bear you in mind NotSoFast! 1
