Hi all!

We have an environment of Server 2016 and Windows 10 1803 and local profiles are used.

We are having an intermittent problem with printers installed through GPP. On a number of occasions when a user logs into a machine for the first time they do not get any printers installed. If they login again on that machine (local profile already created) the printer is installed.

Printers are shared via UNC on GPP and are set to 'UPDATE'

As you can imagine this is driving our users mad.

It seems to be a bug worldwide according to forums but Edugeek usually has the answer, if possible we would like to refrain from reverting back to logon scripts etc.

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you

Hiya

Few things:

Have you checked Event Viewer for GPP related errors?

Is it happening to many users on the same machine, ie it happens even though the driver has already installed from another user?

Also, a stab in the dark but have you tried setting the GPP as Replace? That was my way around a similar issue.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Printer Error Dec 18.JPG

See Event Viewer error attached.

This is happening across site on multiple machines for multiple users.

I had replace on originally and thought changing to update would help but no such luck.

Welcome to the club... I and indeed many others are still waiting on a fix for this issue. So far the only thing I've managed to work out is that it only affects our users that use mandatory profiles.

I guessed from the rage across the internet.....

It's local profiles that's causing the issue for us.

There was another similar post somewhere where people have had success with adding the printer into the GPP twice, once for a Create, and again for an Update.

If it fails to Create it printer then the Update should still add it, might be worth trying if you haven't already.

I think I had the same code due to the last supported drivers for some old Konica machines running on Windows 10.

Has it only started happening since moving to W10, or has anything been changed on the print server?

Does it occur with the same printers or..?

Yes just since Win 10 - we have the latest drivers available installed - they are sharp MFDs same across school

There's a huge thread on here about printer mapping issues. There's a few workarounds for GPP but mostly ends up being either going back to GPO Deployed Printers and \ or scripts to get a reliable solution.
