We are looking into the route of getting parents to Pay for Surface Go to use in school. To manage this we are looking at InTune to install apps and controls. Has anybody had experience of this? Do we wipe all applications on it and install ours and lock down? This has implications.

You'll probably want to look into Windows AutoPilot. It's like Microsoft's version of Apple's DEP.

Windows Autopilot is a cloud-based deployment technology available in Windows 10. Using Windows Autopilot, you can remotely deploy and configure devices in a truly zero-touch process right out of the box. With Surface devices, you can choose to register your devices at the time of purchase when purchasing from a Surface partner enabled for Windows Autopilot. New devices can be shipped directly to your end-users and will be automatically enrolled and configured when the units are unboxed and turned on for the first time. This process can eliminate need to reimage your devices as part of your deployment process, reducing the work required of your deployment staff and opening up new, agile methods for device management and distribution.

Yes, we will be integrating with our network via Active Directory (we don't have the full Azure package as of yet). However, as the parents are purchasing the device they wish to have their own "profile" on the machine. Do we just add a profile with all the necessary settings or create a fresh IMAGE which will effectively wipe the existing install on the Surface Go. Excuse my ignorance but never managed mobile devices in this context before. We have yet to purchase mobile admin management software.
