ninglis Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 Hi there Just wondering if anyone has any advice on a suitable mouse that can be used in a school and that is not easy to break. Everyday I find myself replacing a mouse somewhere in my school due to damage from a student, and the teachers and leadership team, just don't care. I managed to get a pretty decent, virtually unbreakable mouse from Hills Components last year, but unfortunately they've gone into administration. So I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend anything that might last a little longer. Thanks 1
synaesthesia Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 Do you have anything like CCTV in the suites? We don't have much vandalism but when it does happen we're able to catch it, even if it's petty; then taking action on it by billing the student/parent, word gets around. For the sake of a couple of quid per mouse/keyboard it's rarely an issue as a result and probably cheaper than spending a lot more money on expensive "unbreakable" mice - rather like the old RM/Logitech ones where the balls were not removable, they soon got either broken or unusable.
ninglis Posted November 12, 2018 Author Posted November 12, 2018 Oh I would love to have CCTV in place or even staff that support me, but unfortunately I don't have either. I believe in the past, CCTV was put in place but it was an older system with visible cables and thus it got ripped out by students. That's what I'm dealing with here I'm afraid. That and the fact that my budget has been halved again for the third year running, I'm not likely to get any backing for CCTV. The unbreakable mice that Hills had available were around £2 per device and had buttons that were not easy to get finger nails under and break. So I thought I'd ask if anyone can recommend something similar. If not then I'll go back to buying the cheapest one I can find from amazon or somewhere.
HTCPCP Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 Have a look at alibaba - we bought some washable mice from there for a homeless shelter, and they seem to be reasonably decent. Downside is, they don't seem to be on the site anymore...
jemal Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 I'm in the same position as you. I called up Crusader AV (https://www.crusaderav.co.uk/rugged-optical-computer-mouse-usb-black-braided-cable/p-16564) and they sourced some of Hill's liquidated stock for me and got a discount for an order of 50 (albeit not as cheap as Hill's original price). Hill's had those mice specially made direct from a foreign factory, so likely those mice won't be around much longer. 1
