tj2419 Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Anyone else getting inundated with requests to install these printers and software for staff after it was on dragons den? http://www.markmate.co.uk Not liking the prospect of having 50-100 of these to install and maintain. Plus all the logins are individual ones not the school accounts as our staff are just purchasing it themselves. [emoji85] Anyone set them up before? Are they plug and play? [emoji120]
elsiegee40 Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 I saw this. Great idea, but where are schools supposed to get the money for one printer per teacher? Governor hat on: Refer to your SLT and ask them. If Markmate is to be used then it should be formally part of the school's marking stategy and policy. A more cost-effective solution is for SLT to review the school's assessment procedures and strategies with a view to improving teacher well-being... as this was done across the schools in my governor MAT last summer, and knowing what is in this strategy, I am not expecting Markmate to come up as a budget variance this year and will challenge if I see it.
Ketlane Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 I can see two other issues here - one of which was spotted by one of the Dragons. 1. The data is stored in the cloud for the teacher. "Interesting" GDPR etc issues which need consideration, particularly as it seems teachers who buy their own are storing pupil data independently of the school. If there is evidence that teachers in our schools have bought their own, there will need to be some careful internal politics and policy-making. 2. He was quite clear that he hadn't sorted out linking the MarkMate data to the school's MIS, so double keying will still be needed, or someone has to devise the import routines. That said, I think it's a good idea and one of the "why didn't I think of that?" things - again as mentioned by one of the Dragons.
Brimstone Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 This is a very poor solution. There are better, more advanced and cheaper (even free) solutions that can do this digitally such as direct audio feedback to students, as well as marking and annotating work. This just means teachers now have to carry a label printer and labels with them backwards and forwards to school. By the reactions I have seen to this by teachers on Twitter they seem to agree.
bossman Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 @tj2419 All our stuff is marked online via Google classroom.......its free! So we wont be purchasing any of these wonderful printers......we have moved to a greener solution!

ITBadger Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 They can get the audio feedback in G-Suite by using the Kaizena add-on which is free. 2
tj2419 Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 Anyone using an audio/dictation plugin for feedback in classroom? If so which ones
DGardiner Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 consumables on these printers also cost a fortune - especially at the rate a teacher printing marking statements would eat them and would probably end up matching your copier bills in sticker rolls!
