Ryan_Lee Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Does anyone know what consistent caps blinking and fans pinned at 100% indicate? When I boot the caps led blinks 5 times, then the laptop reboots and the led begins to blink consistently and the fans ramp up to 100%, the only way I can then power off the machine is to remove the battery and AC adapter. I have tried a full power reset by taking out the battery and AC and holding the power for 30 seconds then trying to boot with just the AC adapter in case of possible battery fault with the same result. I have also tried using a known working AC adapter which also had no effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Ryan_Lee Posted October 10, 2018 Author Posted October 10, 2018 Hi David, I originally went to that help page( sorry should have specified this to begin with) however the sequence I am getting does not match any of the sequences on the page
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Okay, well in that case I'm not overly sure. Have you tried replacing the memory? On a hp desktop, a non-boot followed by the fans ramping to 100% almost always signifies a memory module failure.
HTCPCP Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 5 blinks on an HP laptop is normally linked to the motherboard (or directly run of a motherboard) I take it you can't get into the BIOS at all? If not things to try: Check all IO ports to see if anything has either been jammed in (bits of paperclip etc) or the pins being damaged/any damage around the port that could show either it being shorted or potentially malicious damage (this isn't hugely likely to cause the issue you are saying, but it's quite quick to check) remove and replace the CMOS battery (or at least check it's working properly, as I have seen that cause major headaches before check the motherboard for any water damage/any capacitors that look swollen/burnt out, while you are about it, try removing anything that can be and replace with known working samples.
