Just wondered if anyone had any tips when looking for Interactive Displays, any got-ya's or any types to look at or to avoid?

Find out what features the teaching staff are using on a daily basis, and draw up a list of features that are Essential / Nice To Have / Not that important.

 

Speak to resellers and get a number of demos booked with different models, and ideally get a few of the more demanding teaching staff to join in with the demos if you can. It's them that you will get the most grief from if you select the wrong ones.

Let the reseller do the hard work and squeeze the manufacturer on pricing until you get the best deal. It's the resellers job to earn the sale.

Compare the warranty offerings from various manufacturers. Some offer 3 year, some 5. Make sure that the warranty is onsite too. For an interactive screen it should be onsite as standard. Check the manufacturer's SLTs too. Ideally you want next business day onsite. You don't want a screen out of action for a week whilst you wait for somebody to come out and repair it.

Compare installation prices from the different resellers. They vary a lot more than you might think.

Check whether the software is licensed for the lifetime of the board or subscription based. Do you need the added expense of an annual subscription to continue using the software?

Listen to the comments from the people who will be using them every day and question everything before you buy.

For us we try to avoid screens with a lot of added features, such as on-board software or wi-fi connectivity, as we use the features in Windows 10 for all of that.

 

Think about how it can be controlled - remotes do go missing if you leave them out so do you want RS232 control? Or easily accessible buttons?

 

Another factor is weight - the bigger ones are heavy. Are you going to have to reinforce the wall to mount it?
