Schools that have a 1:1 Chromebook scheme and use Windows machines

Hi,

 

To those schools that have a 1:1 Scheme and use windows accounts, how do you set the passwords. The school I work in uses Chromebooks primarily so we give new students the same default password which they change when they logon, which we do with thier Windows login as well.

 

The problem with this is that the students seem to forget their Windows login but almost never their Chromebook logins which they use almost everyday.

 

Wanted some thoughts on how other schools setup their logins?

We don't have 1:1 but we do have a large mixed Windows and Chromebook estate.

 

All our users authenticate against AD for G Suite login. This means that they always have the same Username & Password for Windows and Chromebooks. We do this using ADFS. Plus ADFS gives us the added benefit of having SSO for G Suite on Windows machines.

This definitely sounds like a scenario where you'd benefit from using some kind of synchronisation so that you only have to provision one set of accounts and users only have to remember one set of credentials. You can either create accounts in AD (can be achieved with Azure AD Connect) and use them to provision the Google accounts or create accounts in Google and have them provision AD accounts (Google Cloud Directory Sync). Both are free for education users.
