Yeah, sometimes it's a bit weird. Chansip and 8 char passwords for cisco phones are the main things I needed to change for my 7912 phones, they're about 10 years old
Do they need 8 char passwords? I used pjsip and 7 char password.

No, just not more than 8, mind you different models probably have different limits. Have you checked you can dial into the Cisco phone?

Not more than 8? That's probably why it wasn't working in the first place as I let freepbx generate the secret to begin with. I have only set 1 phone up so far. Got busy with other things. Will set up another tomorrow. Not got a sip trunk so it's all internal only at the moment, like an intercom system.

So now i have 2 cisco phones working and I am able to dial from one to the other. At the moment the display on the phones shows the date and time along with the extension number. I would like it to display the persons name or a location ie Study Room. How do I do that please?

On the advanced section on the extension of FreePBX set these settings.

If it still doesn't work let me know. You may need to change something in the XML.

@FN-GM once this is set where does the Remote Party ID header come from? Where do I tell it that this extension is for room 101?

When you dial 101 the phone will automatically resolve the extension name from the remote telephone.

Sorry this is what I was asking, where am I putting in the name for the remote phone so the local phone knows who is calling? Also I want the lcd display on each phone to show a number and a location. At the moment it shows date, time and extension number.

Oh I get you. My fault sorry. Can you post the .xml file and I can show you where.

What the above does I was talking about displays this name on the callers phone when they dial that extension.

@FN-GM here is the XML file from one of the phones.

Try using this line button config.

The extension number is 1234. The password is password and the description is "Room Name"

Thanks. Just amended the XML file with those details and then reset the phone. Still comes up with "date, time" & "extension No" on the display.

It might be that phone. Did it have text on it before?
Not sure, they have been in my cupboard for about 2 years. I'll leave them as they are.

I have the phones working now. Only issue i have is that if I pick up the handset and dial the phone starts dialling after i press the first digit. i need it to dial after the 3rd digit is pressed. I thought it was the first line in the dialplan but altering this made no change. Our extensions start with 0 ie 032, 043

Anyone point me in the right direction please?

My currently very simple dialplan.xml (Or Dialplan.xml, I have both for some reason)

extensions 201 to 399, and then dial 9 and anything
