Cisco switch problem

Hi

 

We have 2 Cisco 2950 switches. One is working fine ie. you connect it to a pc via cat5 and put in the i.p 10.0.0.1 and it goes to the express setup gui screen.

 

The other switch when you do the same it takes you to a text screen that says:-

 

Cisco Systems

Accessing Cisco WS-C2950G-24-EI "Switch"

 

Web Console - Manage the Switch through the web interface.

 

Telnet - to the router.

 

Show interfaces - display the status of the interfaces.

Show diagnostic log - display the diagnostic log.

Monitor the router - HTML access to the command line interface at level 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15

Connectivity test - unavailable, no valid nameserverdefined.

Extended Ping - Send extended ping commands.

 

Show tech-support - display information commonly needed by tech support

 

When I click Web console I get the page not found message

 

I have tried resetting it as per the Cisco instructions using the hold mode button method.

 

Any tips please?

You have some missing files in the html directory on the switch that contains the html and gif files required for web access to the switch.

 

The way to correct this is download the full set of html files and upload to the switch via tftp. Where you get these files is you're problem, you could download from the other switch that has full working web access.....or download from cco. check the 2950 documentation if you're having difficulty.

Thanks for the info. In th end I have given it to someone who knows what they are doing with Cisco switches to sort out

...in case it helps some other soul:

 

A different solution is to download the Cisco Network Assistant to configure your switch--and *optionally* download the latest ".tar" file which has the Web interface for your switch. You can configure with the Network Assistant and leave well enough alone and you can also use it to perform the IOS upgrade for you. If you are starting from scratch and reset the IP configuration you can connect to 10.0.0.1 and then proceed to do all of the configuration with that tool.

 

If you still want to upgrade, and add the Web interface back, then choose "Software Upgrade" from the maintenance window, select your switch, click "Upgrade Settings", use "Standard" mode for the transfer, and browse to the ".tar" file that you downloaded. This tool seems to handle the space issues for you--replacing the existing ".bin" in the process.
