Integrating outlook and office documents with SharePoint online

Would love your opinion/advice on this...

 

Currently trying to look at least painful way to migrate staff to full office 365.

 

The main bugbear is handling of attachments for files stored on SharePoint online drives...

 

I have used webdev to map drives to make it easier but I’m concerned this is not officially supported by ms long term, and it’s not 100 percent reliable ..

 

What methods are you guys using to tackle this and have you been successful ?

 

I’m looking at packages such as this as a possible workaround ..

What are you trying to do with this? In Sharepoint Online you have the option in the properties of a document or library to easily share documents within the org (and outside for that matter). In the Office apps themselves you can work with sharing documents from the office app's own "file" menu.

We've implemented OneDrive Mapper to map everyone's ODfB for them on login but this is sort of hinky to me and we need to be encouraging people to think about these things in new ways and work "natively" within Office 365 (or gapps or whatever) instead of using hacks like webdav drive mappers as a hedge against the day that no longer works, or for that matter, the day they're miles away on a 'guest' computer trying to give a presentation and need to know how to reach their document in O365 without custom drive mappers!

We use Macroview DMF explorer, which if I'm reading your post correctly does what you want! We do have on-prem sharepoint, but I think it plays nicely with online and all office 365 apps.

Great stuff guys, yes I myself is trying to ween them away from the traditional mapped drive attachment ways and try the share docs, realtime update way of working.

 

Quite a hard sell to the old school thinking whwre they need to navigate through many folders to find things to open or attach.

 

It would be nice though for MS to have an easy way of getting to SharePoint online to attach things like PDFs, jpegs ..
