mrbios Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Just updated my vCenter appliance to 6.7 and when i attempt to run an update check on my hosts (still on 6.5) i get the following error: Unsupported devices [4040:0100:103c:1740] found on the host Which is a HP NC375T Quad port network card. However i can't see that device listed in any of the deprecated or unsupported device lists from VMware? I've looked through the list for 6.7, 6.5, 6.0 and it's not on any of them. Any suggestions on resolving this?
Domino Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Have you got vmware upgrade manager setup and pointing at the manufacturers repo? it could be there's a firmware/driver upgrade that's required?
kmount Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Hello, Check - https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=io&productid=14587&vcl=true Reckons it's unsupported after 5.5u3. What server chassis are you using?
mrbios Posted July 23, 2018 Author Posted July 23, 2018 Hello, Check - https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=io&productid=14587&vcl=true Reckons it's unsupported after 5.5u3. What server chassis are you using? Thanks, I've just realised, I added these cards in about 8 months ago when i wanted an extra network point. So i've actually never done an upgrade (although i have been patching....) in that time. Going to look to replace them with something supported, only actually need a single port off them. The chassis is a SuperMicro X10DRW-iT. What dual port server NICs would you recommend replacing these with?
kmount Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 The Intel I350-T2 is probably on the mark for what you need - https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ethernet-products/gigabit-server-adapters/ethernet-i350-server-adapter-brief.html 1
mrbios Posted July 23, 2018 Author Posted July 23, 2018 Ah seems my problem wasn't related to the network adaptor...though i probably do need to replace them if they're not supported. I instead had to reset the update manager database, seems something went screwy during migration: https://blog.ganser.com/after-upgrade-to-vcsa-6-5-scan-for-updates-fails-with-unknown-error/
Tefters Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 Apologies for the Necro but I just upgraded a DL380 G7 from ESXi 6.5 to 6.7 with one of the NC375T. You cant make the upgrade through Vcenter upgrade manager due to this part not being supported, again same thinking as OP, "pfff not supported doesn't always mean doesn't work" and made the upgrade via USB on the host itself. The host booted and all looked OK however the NC375T was missing! Low and behold this NIC just flat out doesn't work on 6.7 from what I can see. Haven't looked too much more into it and have rebuilt the host on 6.5 for now but will be replacing the card ASAP as a word of warning to anyone!
mrbios Posted March 22, 2019 Author Posted March 22, 2019 What strange coincidental timing. I've just today been reusing a DL380 G7 for some lab network testing, and forgot about them dropping E5506 cpu support and had to install 6.5 on it.
Tefters Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 (edited) Yup, rather annoying! The CPU is technically still supported but would imagine within the next 2 releases it will be stopped. The NC375T NIC expansion definitely isn't supported and does not work either as of 6.7 Think it's time to start looking at some new G10 servers and converting the environment over to a Windows Hyper-V cluster. Love VMware but hating this hardware deprecation support. Granted my G7's are going on 9 years old now but are still running strong! Edited March 25, 2019 by Tefters

I did with my last replacement cycle and not regretted it. Using SuperMicro based servers now, they're cheaper cheaper, no requirement for a support agreement for access to drivers/bios updates, no silly proprietary drive caddies, no HP website Check out something like broadberry for prices. My 3 VMware hosts are SuperMicro X10DRW-iT based, dual 10GB ports onboard. I considered leaving VMware a few years ago, but Hyper-V had its own problems, and apart from trying to reuse this old G7 for a lab network, those NC375T network cards are the only thing that have caused me to stumble. Funnily enough I was considering SM servers and just buying the additional bits to slap in myself. I have 2 Coraid SANS (Original Coraid so way.... out of warranty!) in a mirror setup which I am just running til death and recently started upgrading the drives the SSD's. Will have a little looksie!
