howartp Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Hello. For years, we've created a "class" for registration period and put our students in it, which then shows session 1 on the timetable. We also put students into the inbuilt pastoral structure so SIMS knows which form a student is in. Our new deputy head would like us to do this properly, ie just use the in-built pastoral structure (Focus > School > Pastoral Structure) - but this doesn't appear on timetables (Reports > Timetables > Student timetables). Can anyone guide me how to get the pastoral form period to appear on the timetable, without creating a "class" as well as the inbuilt structure? I don't touch NovaT or Curriculum, so you'll need to guide me in those areas so I can converse with my SIMS colleague on that bit. Pastoral Structure, Lesson Monitor I'm kinda ok. Peter
howartp Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 I always thought this WAS the right way! So did I, but our new DH comes with experience from other schools and often expects me to ring them up to ask how something was achieved as we're not competent to do it ourselves.
Linfit Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 So did I - its much more flexible and useful for reporting assessment etc - However, to answer the original question, this requires the Timetable cycle to be modified in Nova-T6: the slots that are going to be registration for each day need to be defined as Registration Periods in the Period Type dialogue and they need to be set as Exclusive (to prevent the auto-scheduler scheduling normal lessons in them). The new cycle will then need sending to SIMS, with the correct period times in it. If your timetabler is well on with the timetable using the old system, they won't thank you for changing the cycle at this stage, as it involves a fair bit of back-tracking, although its is doable. I am the timetabler here and if someone suggested I do this at this point - well, strong words would be had. 1
howartp Posted July 10, 2018 Author Posted July 10, 2018 Surprise surprise, we're going back to the old way. Still requires SIMS lady to unpick various NCCs and re-add them.
