1803 - LayoutModification.xml problem

Hi folks,

 

I'm having problems with only some of the groups displaying in the start layout.

 

What I've done -

 

set up the menu on PC , exported it then altered the %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ paths to %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\

 

copied the .lnk & .website files to c:\programdata\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs on other test PC

 

The LayoutModification.xml was added to the SCCM task sequence to import it with this command "powershell.exe Import-StartLayout -LayoutPath LayoutModification.xml -MountPath $env:SystemDrive"

 

On the test PC I can see the correct LayoutModification.xml in c:\users\default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\ folder.

 

When I log on with a student account I only see

 

 

So I'm missing the University , Logoff & New Group - Department 1 groups totally.

 

Any ideas where I'm going wrong with this one please ? Its obviously using the new xml as Office & Web Browser groups are correct.

LayoutModification can be quite picky at what it chooses to show. For URLs consider doing the following:

 

 

(so using DesktopApplicationID instead of DesktopApplicationLinkPath and specifying the URL in the XML itself).

 

Is the "Log Off PC" some sort of shell command? I've had difficulties getting certain items to pin when using LayoutModification, for example "This PC".

 

Also note that PowerPoint and Calculator show to the right of your Office group rather than below it. Was that how you arranged the original menu, or is that only showing up when applying LayoutModification? In your XML the cell width is set to 6, and you're using 2x2 tiles, so logically you should never have more than three columns, however this seems to be yet another bug

 

(Caveat: I've only played with LayoutModification on 1709 so far).

Hi ,

 

I'll give it a go with the DesktopApplicationID and let you know how I get on.

 

The "Log Off PC" is a shortcut to "C:\Windows\System32\logoff.exe"

 

I noticed the Office problem , overall I'm not too worried about it at the moment , I'll correct that before the final version but thanks for the pointers.

.website files just don't work in the xml, you'll need to be creative and use the shortcut to IExplorer.exe "somewebsite.com" command so it is an .lnk file.

 

That's how I do it anyway and it works fine.

the only thing i change is once exported is edit the xml for the link and give it a title eg ( DisplayName="" ) becomes ( DisplayName="Purple Mash" ) if you wish you can also link to a png file for the tile
