jawebber Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 Hi all, Brick wall here and looking for some help. On logging in to our school network the adapter icon in the system tray has the yellow triangle and IPv4/v6 show No Internet Access. I've tried setting Group Policy to disable the Microsoft connectivity tests and set DNS probe to our internal DNS. Both policies are enabled and active, but still the icon shows. I've tried everything I can think of, and the one thing that fixes it is to go into the adapter settings, IPv4 and change the DNS to 8.8.8.8, validate settings on exit and the icon goes back to no triangle. I can then go back into DNS and change it back to our internal DNS servers and the triangle doesn't show again. We do have smoothwall as our filtering system, but wondering whether I should be looking there, on the DNS servers or on the clients/GPO to solve this one. If anyone else has come across it and solved, help would be appreciated! Best wishes.
Katy Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 To determine if there is connectivity it needs to be able to access http://www.msftncsi.com without needing to authenticate, try adding this in on smoothwall to be allowed without authentication. Although not sure why it works with DNS set to google but not to your domain - can you resolve msftncsi.com through your internal DNS servers?
ZeroHour Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 Just a FYI there is a thread about this problem in the Smoothwall Direct Support section: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/smoothwall-direct-support/197099-no-connectivity-windows-machines.html
jawebber Posted June 17, 2018 Author Posted June 17, 2018 Thank you - I'll continue the conversation on that thread.
