Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has managed to get ClassDojo to work through their filtering (specifically Netsweeper)? If so which URLs have you had to unblock?

I've allowed as many of the blocked URLs as I can by watching the live Netsweeper log and clicking around the ClassDojo app but our teachers still don't seem to be able to upload photos. We're using Netsweeper on SchoolsBroadband in transparent mode for our iPad network.

Cheers

Can’t help with ClassDojo.....but what’s this transparent mode with Schools Broadband you talk about?

Sorry not transparent in the sense of not having to define a proxy setting, transparent in that there is no required authentication. We put all our iPads in their own VLAN with a more restrictive web filtering policy.

Hi Blue_Cookeh,

We have been working on a category for ClassDojo here at Smoothwall, the domains that we have found to make it work are as follows:

api.classdojo.com

logs.classdojo.com

pstatic.classdojo.com

classdojo.pubnub.com

toolkit.classdojo.com

dojophotos.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com

images.classdojo.com

When those domains are in a 'HTTPS Do not inspect' policy and in an 'Allow' policy then it should work as expected(This is Smoothwall specific, so I'm not sure what the equivalent is in Netsweeper)

Hello Blue_Cookeh

We would like to say thanks to j_mckeague for sharing those URLs.

From the Netsweeper perspective, you can use your policy list processing to allow those URLs (use either your Local List, or a Shared List)

  • Create a new list entry for classdojd.com ensure the Action is set to allow. There's no need to add an item for each host if they share the common domain (unless you want to be specific of course!)
  • Add similar entries for classdojo.pubnub.com and dojophotos.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com. For these two you probably do want to be exact (otherwise the scope would be too wide, i.e. "all of pubnub.com" is probably not what you would want - but it's your decision).

Note: the scheme-less entry that allows classdojo.com will also turn off SSL inspection (compared to an entry with a scheme, e.g. https://classdojo.com)

Thanks,

Netsweeper Team

P.S you can always contact the Schools Broadband helpdesk team for this type of help and assistance.

Thank you very much guys! @Netsweeper your post helped me clear up some of our rules too :)

I actually had a response from ClassDojo officially too over the weekend, I'll share these here in case anyone else runs into the same problems :)

*.classdojo.com
*.pubnub.com
use.typekit.net
*.loggly.com
amplitude.com
*.filestack.com
toolkit.classdojo.com
*.filepicker.io

And whitelist these two URLs:
https://dojovideos.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/
https://dojovphotos.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/

If your IT department does not have the ability to wildcard domains, here is a more precise list of ClassDojo subdomains to whitelist:
api
home
teach
student
www
teach-static
home-static
student-static
static
pstatic
pstudent
avatars
images
imagescf
dojovideos
dojovideoscf
videos
ideas
studentmode
files
toolkit
