Evening all.

A little background.. I have just started working in a primary school as part of my new MAT role.

The primary issue laptops to staff. This is something I moved away from about six years ago in favour of fixed desktops and remote access. I have a list as long as my arm on why I opted for this.

I’m just wondering though... how do those in similars setups configure laptops for home

Use?

I’m only particularly interested in storage / home folders / shared directories really.

I have all of the internet stuff boxed off with auto config scripts etc.

The current setup is a bit of one drive client and a bit of offline files (ish). It just all seems a little messy.. redirected folders and environment variables etc.

I was thinking of introducing some kind cloud drive mapper scenario or just using remote access?

It’s been so long since I have done anything with staff laptops I wanted to make sure I am thinking on the right lines.

I’m worried that although I’m moving forward they might feel it’s moving backwards as I’m saying it relies on internet access.

Any suggestions?

I have had negative experiences with DA in the past as part of my testing and own developments and I don’t think vpn is an option really.

Thanks as always

We tend to use offline files although some are moving to one drive / google.

Where we install our our internet and filtering product we have a bit more control and will setup VPN access for them.

Every school I have worked in has issued laptops to teachers and every one has gone down the offline files route, with everything redirected in school

It might not be the most modern way to do it but it works fine for us.
