AD & Office 365 Sync Bulk Change UPN

Hi,

 

Dummy user: Ben Smith (username smith b)

 

In ad our user email addresses are [email protected] and logon as surname initial ie smith b

When creating users, both username and logon pre200 are set to be surname initial

 

I've set up sync between Ad and Office 365 which works fine however when users are synchronized they get the default of [email protected]

 

If i edit each user in AD for their username to be surname.forname i.e ben.smith and change the UPN to the proper DOMAIN.com and re-sync it then is correct in 365.

 

How would i do this en mass for all users so that it doesnt have to be manually changed for all users, or for new users which are created so it can automatically set this to be in the correct format?

as i understand it what you need to do is fill in the email field to be what you want their email address to be but ive never tried to redo it only tried on test domains/tenancies

this should give you the info you need. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/how-to-prepare-a-non-routable-domain-such-as-local-domain-for-directory-synchronization-e7968303-c234-46c4-b8b0-b5c93c6d57a7 we also used the Azure ad connect Synchronization Rules Editor to update the Proxy address info as it is uploaded so we didn't have to manually add them.

You should be able to use powershell to change them all automatically https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/Update-AD-Users-UPN-with-d9722293. For new users if you set the correct email and UPN in AD when creating the account it will sync over properly the first time. Edited June 6, 2018 by NicholasEsping
