dave.81 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 We are having a problem with one of our Sony projectors, about 3 weeks ago the build went before it's time. Not a problem replaced the build and gave the whole thing a good spray dusting, reset the timer and all was well. That lasted 4 days, then it kept refusing to turn on, it would start to power up but after a couple of minutes would shut down and claim the build has gone again. Occasionaly it will power on and last the whole day but it's a rare thing. Any ideas as to what could be wrong, it is 5 years old and out of warrenty so i'm guessing it's gonna be easier to just replace the projector.
rush_tech Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 We have a Sony projector (VPL-VX70) ours developed a problem like yours, it would randomly refuse to come on for some reason. Sent it back to Sony luckily it was just inside the warranty, they did'nt tell us what was wrong(even though we asked). I know not a lot of help but I guess its a new projector
PEO Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 could be a temperature issue, is near any heating ducts? if you have hot air blowing on or circulating around the projector then its going to turn off to protect the bulb, and electronics.
MikW Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Could be an temperature issue? I've had problems in the past where projectors will randomly switch off because the temperature in the room got too high. Especially science labs when they had a few bunsens on I did have a Sanyo projector once which had a simelar problem. After consulting the Google oracle I found a service manual and managed to up the fan speed. It was slightly noisier but stayed on. Hope this advice is helpful.....
dave.81 Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 It is mounted in the middle of the ceiling, no heating on at moment in school and even at 8am this morning when she first tried it still wouldn't work so not sure it's a heat issue. Think i better get a quote for a new projector lol...
PEO Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 the bulb may need changing or if you have changed it, have you reset the bulb count life?
Pete10141748 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I've had that problem twice, once with a VPL_EX3 and once with an EX1. Both times Sony took it back and sent us a new one. No info on what the problem was though
dave.81 Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 the bulb may need changing or if you have changed it, have you reset the bulb count life? Both have been done still nothing.
PEO Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Both have been done still nothing. may aswell open it up and clean the thing. you say it sometimes stays on all day and times it dosent come on at all. its def a heat problem, i would open it and give it a good clean out.
