Sponsorship Forms.

I have just been given a sponsorship form to sponsor a child on behalf of Cancer Research.

I am just wondering how these forms now fit in with the requirements of GDPR.

The Form requires a Name, Postcode, Address, Amount of sponsorship and whether gift aid is appropriate.

Given the level of information being collected and the fact that these are passed around many people. I'm assuming that sponsorship forms in general may be a problem especially if passed amongst parents in a school.

My thoughts are that it is so transparent that other people will see your details that if the form was lost/stolen you couldn't claim any severity against your rights or freedoms because it is so obvious that is how a sponsorship form works.

 

The person can still sponsor the person without giving their details so the personal data is freely given should they be relying on consent.

 

The charities in general would need to be careful what they do with the data once they have it and ensure compliance with GDPR/PECR but I wouldn't have a problem it. It would prob be advisable to the charity/school etc to include a brief privacy policy so the person knows exactly what they do with the data.

 

If it was a school that was doing the sponsorship form my thoughts are that if they include a privacy statement/policy with it saying what the data was for then I'd be happy with it and advise any further risks are so small that you can just accept them as a risk.
