newpersn Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 More annoying at one of our Sites. Been a problem with the phone system but due to an incident and couldn't make a 999 call though the phone system. Anyway... Got a PBX support company to remote and have a look and made some changes and would like to me test it... How do this without getting in to trouble?
forkies Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Apparently you can just call 999 and say “this is a telephone system test call” they confirm and you hang up. I have been told to do this later this week once our phone system is migrated to SIP from ISDN. 2
Blue_Cookeh Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 There's a lot of conflicting information online but we were told you are not allowed to. Depending on the 999 operator they may get very upset with you. Your best bet is to test 101 since it should hit an IVR. You should be able to call 101, 112, 999 both with and without the initial number to get an outside line. 1
MatthewL Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 (edited) Back in 2013 when a similar question was posted I spoke to our Avaya supplier at the time and this was their response: Call 999 explain that you are testing and ask them to confirm CLI and get them to acknowledge but one of his engineers tells him if you are doing numinous connective test calls, call the local police (101) first to explain, they will give you a code to clear, not sure if this is correct. It maybe worth calling 101 first to see if that connects as I know some systems can have issues routing 101 and 999 due to their short format and the number plan not put into the system correctly. ozydave Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Yep I have had to do a couple of tests. I called 101 to explain. They were very helpful. Arranged to make. 999 call 1
FN-GM Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 (edited) I have had to do it in the past and will be doing it tomorrow. We have just joined a school onto our trust phone system so need to confirm the caller ID with them. They won't give you the ID but if you give them what it should be they will confirm (or not). I had issues with the SIP trunks presenting the wrong caller ID to 999 in the past. It was fine on normal phones though. They will ask you for your initials for a log. I posted this a few years ago - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/netbooks-pda-phones/107814-testing-999-a.html Edited May 29, 2018 by FN-GM
FN-GM Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Just did it. Told them we had a new system installed and I was testing. I asked to confirm the caller ID. I provided it and they confirmed it was correct. They asked for my initials. That was it. Lasted less than 30 seconds. 1

MatthewL Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Providing you just don't hang up and explain your reasons for calling a 999 operator there shouldn't been an issue. You have a duty of care to ensure it works. Providing you don't make a nuscience of it you will be fine.
newpersn Posted July 7, 2018 Author Posted July 7, 2018 Forgot to update. I did a 999 test call and all was fine. Could see caller ID their end.
