Network issue

I have a server running 2016. Six onboard NICs all teamed to one connection. Correct drivers installed from manufacturers. If I ping the server from anywhere, I get about 1/3 packet loss. If I ping anything from it, no packet loss at all. How does that work then? What do I check to try and figure out what is going on? I got alerted to this as my Veeam backup is horribly slow on it so I started looking at why. It's currently doing a Veeam backup which I'd rather not interrupt, but it says it's running about about 7Mbps so I can't see that would be drawing enough to cause the packet loss. And if it was, how come it's only one way?

Depending on your teaming setup, did you ensure the switch knows they're teamed?

 

Traffic out would pick one nic so wouldn't cause a problem, traffic in would etc

Nope!

 

Team now configured to use LACP, trunk set up on the switch. The backup is now running faster, and I have no packet loss.

If you are getting 7mbs on your veeam backup then there is something seriously wrong somewhere. If you are getting mas packet loss I would be looking at the LACP trunk and checking if it is all set up 10% correct on both the server and the switch.

The LACP wasn't configured at all on the switch. Is now and all is well with the world once more. It's now configured 100% though as I'm not sure '10% correct' would really help either
