Building a test/training SIMS server on Server 2016 and SQL 2016

Hi

I’m planning to build a server 2016 VM and running SQL 2016 running SIMS for testing and training for the team, hoping to be more self sufficient. At present we are running a 2012r2 / SQL 2012 SIMS Live in production..

It’s been years since I built a second sims from scratch..is the principle still the same?

Install SQL

Install SIMS client / server

Copy simshare over

DB attach backup

I remember so long as the connect.ini file points to the test server for PCs intended for testing, the live and test sims serve can co exist quite happily ?

Thanks as always

If you are using a backup of the current SIMS database I would highly recommend re-setting all passwords in the training system and changing the school logo (we change it to a solid blue rectangle) so people can't mistake the 2. Even if you intend for them to be entirely separate someone will get them mixed up.

Cheers guys!

Have now installed SQL 2016 and add on management studio

Copied SIMSHARE and DOCSTORAGE folders across

Silly Question where do I find the latest executables for SOLUS 3, SIMS.net etc?

Thanks as always
