Vanilla Folder Redirection for Desktop not working

I'm assuming those computers have the same software installed on? If it's not installed yet it wouldn't show the icons etc, and will take a while after it's installed to reinitialise the cache etc.

 

The other option is are you mixing 32bit and 64bit setups as could be wrong shortcuts if so?

Hi, same software installed, exactly the same processor architecture, in fact, identical HP computers in every way.

 

If I login as admin, Word shortcuts point to identical locations on both computers.

 

I am now not even able to find them in start menu. It is as though they don't exist when logged in as a user. If I go on as admin, they are all there on start menu.

 

And to top things off, randomly, Tight VNC will totally freeze up when I log in as a user like this:

I am unable to do anything, if I close VNC and re-open, I am presented with a black screen.

 

Just seems to be problem after problem.

I'm assuming that means you've also set the startmenu to redirect? If so that's where the problem probably is, you can't (well you can but don't) do the old Win7 redirect both style, you really do need to start using the XML for the start menus etc

Does this also need linking to my users OU like the desktop redirection?

Think you need to take a step back here and work out what you're expecting on each part a bit.

 

There's the three areas you're talking about now, the Tiles on the StartMenu (The XML you linked above), The Actual StartMenu (Is this redirected? Or is this the default startmenu) and the Desktop (Redirected as mentioned above).

 

So the Desktop is redirecting now, but you're having issues with shortcuts on it.

 

Whats the actual startmenu and the tiles menu look like?

Hi, sorry I meant just the tiles, that is all I have configured.

I configured the server with desktop redirection and start menu tiles.

 

What I am finding is the computer I used to test with works perfectly, but any other one on the domain gets no tiles for the start menu and blank icons on the desktop which don't work.

 

It was a very basic start menu layout (with the tiles). Mainly just links to all office shortcuts and Chrome.

 

I had never got far enough to consider the actual start menu. That would have been something maybe for the future.

 

This is the start menu tile layout I am currently getting as a user, this is not what should be coming up based on my XML.

 

 

These systems are just for use by admin users, so I am not fussed about locking things down which is why I left the main start menu alone, so they could manually search for anything else they wanted, just leaving my start menu tiles for important things like office and chrome on the main part of the menu.

Ok, that's no worries just helps backworking it.

 

It is starting to apply as you can see the utilities and the system groups, but normally that means it's not happy with the XML or a link as it's broken during the application. Even something silly like a missing shortcut will upset it.

 

In that case if you remove the two lines of spacing in the XML, and relog back on, does it still show only those 3? (StartMenus won't update until the XML date modified has changed once a profile has logged on)

Ok, I have done what you said, and it now works. So start menu is now working as expected.

Forget that last post. User logged out for lunch, came back and they now get this again

 

Have rebooted computer several times, even deleted their profile and rebooted, but no, start menu tiles broken again.
