DalekSec Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 (edited) Hi All, We are moving aware from Read & Write gold and towards a software called DocsPlus, which is a lot better from what I've seen! The problem we have is DocsPlus doesn't have OCR built in (R&W does). Where teachers scan in old Exam papers or other documents for students to read they won't be able to, R&W Gold runs out in July so we can't do it in there and move it across. We have found that Adobe Acrobat has it in and that worked perfectly, but we only have limited CC licenses, not enough for teachers and we'd rather not be asked every time a teacher needs a document scanned with OCR. I've found a few online OCR but all are either unreliable or ask you to sign up. Does anyone know of any reliable software or website? Edited April 30, 2018 by DalekSec
unixman_again Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 I've had some success with Free Online OCR - Convert JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, PDF, DjVu to Text although obviously it depends on the complexity of the input file.
bald_pig Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 It's hidden in MS Office: https://www.lifewire.com/ocr-software-you-may-have-2769249

Tried this but with the Exam papers I've tried so far it's been too messy It's hidden in MS Office: https://www.lifewire.com/ocr-software-you-may-have-2769249 Tried this also but doesn't seem to work, maybe it doesn't work with Office CTR? As that's what all our staff are running. Google Docs does OCR too. https://support.google.com/drive/answer/176692 We use 365 here, adding google docs into the mix will confuse a lot of staff!
