Save me re-inventing the wheel, does anyone have a policy/guidance for staff use of Twitter they'd be willing to share? I don't mean personal use of Twitter, I mean people who are running school/department Twitter accounts - a list of rules, standards to follow, expectations, etc.

Thanks for the links. Using those and some other resources I found, we came up with the following addition to our Staff Handbook:

Some teams at %school% have Twitter accounts. The format of the username is, for example, @schoolnamePE. If you wish to have a team account, please speak to the IT Services Manager. A named member of staff must be responsible and designated as account manager. Login details must be shared with the IT Services Manager, so the account can be monitored in case of staff absence and passed to someone else when the account manager leaves the school. Before you start an account, you will need to consider both what you want to post and how often you will post. Remember that a tweet will still be seen as an official school communication so should be consistent with all the normal standards of professionalism. The account will need to be monitored daily for messages, mentions etc, even if posts are only weekly, so any response required is timely. The account manager will need to be aware of potential issues such as abusive users (who may need to be reported or blocked). As usual, if in doubt take advice from the IT Services Manager or a member of LT.
