VLAN - Changing default gateway

Hello,

We have multiple VLANs in place and we need to change the default gateway for one of these VLANs. Is it as simple as changing the 'Router' entry within DHCP? Or will I need to make some config changes on our switches? If so, would it just need doing on our core switch, a HP ProCurve 5406ZL? Or would we have to do it on all edge switches too?

You should only need to change the gateway in DHCP and the IP address given to your 5406zl within that subnet assuming your routing is done on the 5406.

DHCP is an easy change.

The 5406zl does do our routing. What command would I need to run to achieve this?

You can do it from the menu...

 

Telnet in to your core

Type 'menu' and press enter

Select '2. Switch configuration'

Select '5. IP configuration'

Select 'Edit'

Change the IP for the VLAN in question

Save

[NetworkServices]

...or if you prefer to use solely commands

 

Telnet in to your core

conf t

vlan

ip address

write mem
