Ditto Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 (edited) We're looking to print Avery address labels (L7159) which is 3 x 8. Source data is progresso, tools available are MS Word/Excel and Google docs/sheets etc. Anyone tackled this issue and have a simple solution? Edited March 8, 2018 by Ditto
djrscally Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 (edited) Yes! See attached. Errr I can't attach it, why not... It won't let me attach a .rdl file for whatever reason, so here's the next best thing: https://nas.djrscally.me.uk/index.php/s/RHSHo7HfRTCiDZn/download Edited March 8, 2018 by djrscally
Ditto Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Thanks for this. I might make a couple of tweaks to remove blank lines and possible allow it to run with 'View with filter'. Out of interest, do you find it only works when you export to PDF, but not when exporting to Word? Our office would like word output so they can add a line of their own - e.g. to put a topic on the label.

Our office would like word output so they can add a line of their own - e.g. to put a topic on the label. To be honest I've never tried exporting to Word; I basically only ever export stuff to PDF. There are differences between how SSRS renders Word and PDF exports for some reason, so I just picked one and stuck to that. So, it doesn't surprise me if it works poorly in word. If they want to do that, I'd just knock up a list report and get them to mail merge in word. 2016 has the Avery L7159 Labels included as a default format for labels.
Mic_Impero Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 There used to be a plugin for Office which would allow you to connect to predefined reports in Progresso (you set the type somewhere so it showed up in the plugin) and this would allow you to drag data straight into Word from Progresso in the same way you would an Excel sheet. Apologies if this has been deprecated since the SSRS changes, my knowledge is very out of date! 2
Ditto Posted March 9, 2018 Author Posted March 9, 2018 Thanks. I'll drop the support guys a note and see what they say. I also found a Avery Google apps add-in. It didn't have great review but what always unsettles me with these apps is the permission requests. Am I being over cautious in this case?

I wouldn't be happy with that set either, but I acknowledge myself to be pretty tinfoil at times. @Mic_Impero that thingy still exists yeah - we used to use it quite a lot. It's basically like having an Excel sheet and mail merging from that, except you're hitting Progresso directly so it's always live. 1
